Electronic Filing As a result of the Inland Revenue's strategic review (Carter) on payroll services, many businesses may decide they would rather have someone handle payroll for them than continue to do it themselves. A key aspect of the review was that electronic filing of payroll year-end returns will become mandatory.
Businesses with less than 50 employees are to be encouraged to move to electronic filing by offering incentives over a 5 year period. Once you have made the move, you will not be able to revert to paper.
Electronic filing will be mandatory for all UK employers by 2009/10.
